1. Dogs must be at least one year old, in good health, sound, and reasonably fit. If you have a younger dog, you can still request to be on our notification list for later – now is the time to be working on basic foundation skills with your puppy. We can provide referrals to local trainers depending on your needs.
2. This is not a class that addresses extreme behavior problems in dogs ... please, no aggressive dogs.
3. Dogs *must* have a good "sit/stay" and "recall". If you need help with these skills, again please contact us for a referral to a local trainer.
Agility is a great activity for both dogs and people, and this class focuses on a fun, positive, safe introduction to basic agility. You and your dog will both learn some new things about each other during the class – it’s an opportunity for you both to have fun together. You will be able to try all the obstacles we use, plus start learning handling and training skills.
ESAG Inc. is a member of NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council). NADAC is a national club, like AKC, that supports training and trials for our particular ‘style’ of agility. We focus on safety and teamwork between the dog and handler. To that end, there are a few obstacles such as the tire jump, teeter-totter, and pause table that we don’t use; but don’t worry, there will be plenty to challenge both you and your dog: we will cover jumps, hoops, barrels, tunnels, weave poles, the dog walk and the a-frame! We also use primarily positive training methods.
